This divergent-convergent cycle is found to be the underlying dynamic that explains the development of corporate cultures for innovation, learning among innovation team members, leadership behaviors of top managers or investors, building relationships and joint ventures with other organizations, and developing an industrial infrastructure for innovation. Resource investments and organizational structure enable this innovation cycle, while external institutional rules and internal focus draw the boundaries of the journey.

The authors conclude with advice for innovation managers and entrepreneurs: learn to "go with the flow," because while they can learn to maneuver through the innovation journey, they cannot control its flow.

Andrew H. Van de Ven and his co-authors, quite an innovative crew, have crafted a thorough academic model of the corporate innovation process. The authors use a river rafting trip analogy for the innovation journey, where uncharted, challenging territory demands leadership and cooperation. The river metaphor is good to keep in mind here, because the subject matter gets a little dry. The team found that common factors exist in every quest for innovation, and constructed a cohesive model for innovators. The material - resulting from 17 years of research at the University of Minnesota's Minnesota Innovation Research Foundation (MIRP) - is truly exhaustive, detailed and academic. Because of this, a reader with no background in innovation theory might find it somewhat arcane. Great book

Andrew H. Van de Ven and his co-authors published probably the best book out there on the Innovation 'process'. It has been based on real business cases that have been 'generalized' with thorough academic rigour (which most of the books on the subject lack of). To top it off, it is written with great simplicity which just shows the level of understanding the authors have on the subject. If you want to read just one book on the topic, this is probably the one.

Excellent work on Innovation processes and outcome. The contribution to methodology is as rich as it is to innovation research. Longitudinal studies are not very common in organisation studies where this book really scores. Recommend it strongly to all students of organisations interested in rigorous qualitative work.

The Rumors are True! This Book is a Gem for Reference AND Book Collectibility!

This book is outstanding in every way. All the positive reviews are true. I believe this will become a classic book collector's item and reference work in the gem and jewelry industries... but forget selling it for a profit. You'll want to keep it for a lifetime it's so valuable of a reference work both visually and for its indepth content.

Expensive, I'll concede that, but substantially expensive to produce due to the sheer volume of content (888 pages!) and number of quality photos throughout. So don't expect it to ever get discounted much more than the fifty some dollar price reduction on Amazon as of the fall of 2011 (which is a bargain as I paid the full price shown of $225 when it first hit, yet I still think it was reasonably priced all considered). If it goes even lower grab it, but you might want to consider grabbing it now as the production cost is so high that inflation will make it impractical to reprint in its present pristine form. In that respect the first edition will become a classic collectible I think.

have a strong influence on men. Miss Cunningham has delivered a tour de force

are beautifully written.

It is expensive but worth buying because Diamon Compendium is one of a kind.

The Definitive Source

This is a hard cover, heavy tome of nearly 900 pages printed on good quality paper with many pertinent illustrations. It is a very good book crammed with accurate and useful information about diamond, including origin, crystallography, global occurrences, exploration and mining, cutting and polishing, grading and identification. It also discusses simulants and man-made diamonds. It is not written as a story to be read from cover to cover, but as a reference work with a fully descriptive gemmological text to be consulted for its specific topics, some of which are explored in greater scientific depth. The book contains 20 chapters divided into many sections discussing and explaining all aspects of diamonds from physical properties to mining methods and recovery in a plant, including descriptions of techniques, equipment and instruments used in measuring the properties of diamonds. The author took great care in presenting the correct terms for everything discussed. For instance she explains the different meaning of form and habit and why lonsdaleite is not a kind of diamond (type III diamond) but a different mineral. The chapter on colour discusses extensively the perception of colour while other chapters discuss colour enhancement treatments and recutting to enhance brilliance. The chapters on identification of natural diamond, simulants and synthetic diamond are very good. The wide range of topics discussed in this book makes it an eminent textbook and a handbook with practical tips for use in gemmology and in specific diamond courses and it could be considered the `definitive' reference book on diamond.

This Book Will Boggle Your Eyes!

If you enjoy optical illusions and mind/eye puzzles, this is a book for for your enjoyment. The book is filled with not only optical illusions, but also the specific biology behind what happens with your eyes and brain when you see an illusion.

The "blind spot" activities on pages 20-21 were interesting. I was not aware how the blind spot in the back of our eyes affect our vision.

There were other informational entries about the brain, nervous system, and specific parts of your eye.

I know you will enjoy the activities in this book. The explanations are worth taking the time to read too.

About the Author

Earl McKinney Jr.

Teaching the introduction to MIS course has been Earl McKinney’s passion for 20 years. He first caught the bug at his alma mater the U.S. Air Force Academy and has continued his addiction during his tenure at Bowling Green State University. While teaching that class and other undergraduate and graduate classes, Earl has also introduced a half dozen new courses on security, social media, ERP, and information. He has been awarded a number of department and college teaching awards by students and fellow faculty. His interest in the broader context of the business curriculum is reflected in several of his publications and by the Decision Science Institute’s National Instructional Innovation Award.

Earl’s research in e-commerce, small team communication during a crisis, and theoretical work on the notion of information has been published in Behaviour and Information Technology, Human Factors, Information and Management, and MIS Quarterly. He consults with James

Hall, the former head of the NTSB for British Petroleum, the U.S. Forest Service, and several Air Force agencies on human factors and aviation communication issues.

He holds an undergraduate economics degree from the Air Force Academy, a Master’s of Engineering from Cornell University, and a PhD in MIS from the University of Texas. A former Air Force fighter pilot, Earl lives in Bowling Green with his wife and has two grown sons.

David Kroenke

David Kroenke has many years of teaching experience at Colorado State University, Seattle University, and the University of Washington. He has led dozens of seminars for college professors on the teaching of information systems and technology; in 1991, the International Association of Information Systems named him Computer Educator of the Year. In 2009, David was named Educator of the Year by the Association of Information Technology Professionals-Education Special Interest Group (AITP-EDSIG).

David worked for the U.S. Air Force and Boeing Computer Services. He was a principal in the startup of three companies, serving as the vice president of product marketing and development for the Microrim Corporation and as chief of database technologies for Wall Data, Inc. He is the father of the semantic object data model. David’s consulting clients have included IBM, Microsoft, and Computer Sciences Corporations, as well as numerous smaller companies. Recently, David has focused on using information systems for teaching collaboration and teamwork.

His text Database Processing was first published in 1977 and is now in its 13th edition. He has authored and coauthored many other textbooks, including Database Concepts, 6th ed. (2013), Experiencing MIS, 5th ed. (2015), MIS Essentials, 4th ed. (2015), SharePoint for Students (2012), Office 365 in Business (2012), and Processes, Systems, and Information: An Introduction to MIS, 2nd ed. (2015). David lives on Whidbey Island, Washington, and has two children and three grandchildren. He enjoys woodworking, making both furniture and small sailboats.

If you have to read this for your class I'd be sorry for you

This textbook is poorly organized. It may confuse you in so many ways.
The author introduces some abbreviated words before he actually introduces them.
I have to admit that my understanding of MIS was not that great and neither was my reading skill. However, if he was a good author I think he should have rephrased to explain terminologies instead of using the same words to define them and hoping that readers would understand.
On top on that examples he gives us are not really what most of us(I mean, people who are learning MIS for the first time) are familiar with and therefore, it is sometimes difficult to picture them.
He must be a knowledgeable person but I do not think he is a good author.
I really wish that the publishing company reviewed carefully and improved the contents before they published this book.

Very helpful.

This textbook is well written. It breaks down MIS to the most simplistic of terms so that there isn't much confusion. The examples used reflect today's complex world. The chapters read easily and quickly. On top of this, Professor McKinney was one of my graduate professors and would remind you of Bill Nye, the Science guy. He was one of the most creative, cool, and well liked professors at Bowling Green State University. Most of my cohorts would also vouch for that.

Loaded with information, facts and solid information. Suggest to buy only the older edition - you will be happier and wealthier.
Info is overwhelming without a thorough - clear, understandable instructor (most likely with hands on MIS experience). $5.00
is a good deal as it has no resale value ($1.50 this year?) I would never spend current edition prices for it though.

Good content, bad formatting

Content is excellent, however the formatting for the Kindle is awful; huge gaps in the text, several pages have just a few words, way too much white space. I don't know if there are graphics missing or, if everything is there and just poorly spaced. Kind of annoying to read.

I’m happy with this book. I’ve been in retail for a while and I’ve worked with some of this stuff before but it was just routine, now I actually understand why certain numbers are important and what I should learn from them. I like the fact that each formula was shown and explained. It’s a good value.

I got a lot from this book. It covers the important stuff like kpi's, formulas, P&L, etc. and presents everything in a way that's easy to understand. The author clearly knows retail. I would definitely recommend it.

This was a frothy dessert of a book, about a restaurateur who falls for a food critic.

Shannon Bloomfield owns the Wolf and the Fox, an upscale restaurant that currently takes all her time, after two relationships with men who cheated on her. She learns that a food critic from the rating group that took a star away from her in their last edition is planning to visit her restaurant. When she meets critic Tate Gooding she thinks that the Johnny Depp look-alike is too far out of her league. But Tate, who has his own secrets, is attracted to her way beyond his normal casual hookups at BDSM clubs across the country.

When the two of them have an encounter in an alleyway, they set sparks off each other and arouse the onlookers. But they also set off reactions in a stalker who wants Shannon to quit seeing Tate. Can these two overcome the danger and their secrets to find their HEA?

Readers can expect some mild BDSM, including bondage, anal play, spanking and some light femdom. They should not expect deep emotional connections or a major plot. It’s a fun read with some really hot sex scenes.

You Cannot Go Wrong!!!

This book is so smoking, deliciously, hot! It's even better than I normally expect from prolific Karen Mercury -- I totally adored Tate's roommate, who is so funny and I also loved how Tate and Shannon created their own little family.

This is an absolute MUST-READ!!!
